Holiday Season

The holiday season is upon us and everyone that works or is associated with the City wishes you all a safe and holiday season.

Changes at Sebastopol Fire Department

Last week, the City bid a sad and fond farewell to John Zanzi as Fire Chief.  John was the second Chief that the department has had and led the Department for many years with great distinction.  Our city is unbelieveably fortunate to be served by such a talented and dedicated volunteer fire department.  While John would deflect any credit for the success of the Sebastopol Fire Department to the volunteers who serve us, John's efforts, guidance and steady sense of duty and purpose played and will play a pivotal role in its continued success.

City Council Adopts 2012 Budget

On June 21st, the City Council unanimously approved the City's Fiscal Year 2011 - 12 budget.

Proposed Fiscal Year 2011 - 12 Budget

The proposed Fiscal Year 2011 - 12 Budget was presented to the CIty Council and the public in a public hearing on June 7, 2011.  The City Council will consider approval of the budget at its meeting on June 21, 2011.  State law requires that the City adopt a balanced budget by June 30th.

Budget Development

The City is now developing its budget for Fiscal Year 2011 - 12.  Our fiscal year runs from July through June and we are required by law to adopt a balanced budget by the end of June.

Japanese Disasters

When news of the massive earthquake and tsunami reached us last Friday, our thoughts immediately turned to our sister city friends in Takeo/Yamauchi.  Fortunately, they are located a far distance from the most affected areas, however many residents in our sister city undoubtedly have friends and/or family members that have been directly impacted.  As the news on these terrible events continues to unfold, please keep all of our friends in Japan and other affected areas in your thoughts and prayers.

Redevelopment and Leaf Blowers

The issue of whether the state will move forward to disestablishing redevelopment agencies statewide will be coming to a head fairly soon.  The City Council has gone on record as opposing that portion of the Governor's budget proposal that calls for the elimination of redevelopment agencies.  Many other local organizations, businesses and citizens have also voiced their oppostion to the elimination of redevelopment agencies.

Governor's State Budget Proposal

Governor Brown released his budget proposal for the State for Fiscal Year 2011 - 12 on January 10th.  The proposal contains a wide range of spending reductions that realignments that will impact many of the services of all levels of government.

Happy New Years

The City Council and staff wish everyone a happy and healthy New Year.  It will be a challenging year for the City as the economy recovers ever so slowly.   We will do everything we can to continue to provide high quality and efficient City services.  As evidenced by this new website, we have recognized that the City is behind the times technologically speaking and we will continue to explore ways to improve both our external and internal operations.

Holiday Street Tree Lights

The Press Democrat published a column on December 16, 2010 regarding the lack of street tree lighting on Main Street this holiday season.  The column essentially said that the City was preventing the Kiwanis Club from installing lights on the trees.  While there is a kernel of truth to that notion, the facts of the situation are more nuanced then the article makes clear.
