Councilmember Sarah Glade Gurney

sarahcouncil@yahoo.com

Sarah has lived in Sebastopol with her husband, Dan Gurney, since 1978. They raised two children, Elizabeth (Analy High School 2002) and Ted (Analy High School 2005) in the same small house where they still live.

Sarah is a mediator and collaborative attorney with twenty years' experience in Sonoma County. She helps families in transition resolve their legal disputes without going to court. In 2007, she moved her solo practice to downtown Sebastopol so that she could live and work in the same town where she serves on the Council.

Prior to joining the Council in 2004, Sarah was appointed to the City's Planning Commission and, earlier, to the Parks and Recreation Commission. During her seven years in office, Sarah has served one term as Vice Mayor and three terms as Mayor.  She is the first woman to be the Mayor for two consecutive years and only the second person in recorded history to do so.  After her re-election in November 2010, her responsibilities now include: Water Sub-Committee, Center the City Sub-Committee, Safe Routes to School, and Liaison to the Public Library and to Transition Sebastopol.

Sarah is Sebastopol’s delegate to the Sonoma County Transportation Authority, Regional Climate Protection Authority, and Health Action.  Statewide, she holds the positions of Alternate to the California Coastal Commission for the North Central Coast [representing Sonoma, Marin and San Francisco Counties] and Board Member of Coastwalk California.
